If anyone was hoping to catch a glimpse of Gojo Satoru in the Season 4 trailer of Jujutsu Kaisen, MAPPA delivered–but just not in the way you might think.

As part of its 15th anniversary livestream, Studio MAPPA revealed the first teaser trailer for Jujutsu Kaisen‘s “The Culling Game Arc Part 2.” The trailer shows off key scenes from the arc with iconic fights and horrifying moments. It ends with a shot of Sukuna slowly turning around and although viewers cannot see his entire profile, the teaser trailer shows enough of his face to see a smirk curling his lips. Takeru Sato, the assistant director for Season 3, will now take over as the director for Season 4 with Goshozono moving into the chief director role.

Animated and produced by Studio MAPPA, Jujutsu Kaisen aired the first season in October 2020 with 24 episodes. Sunghoo Park directed the first season as well as the prequel film Jujutsu Kaisen 0. Shōta Goshozono replaced Park for Season 2 and 3’s director. Hiroshi Seko and Yosuke Yajima wrote the script with Hiromi Niwa designing the characters and Yoshimasa Terui composed the music. “The Culling Game Arc Part 1” aired on January 9 for 12 episodes.

Written and illustrated by Gege Akutami, Jujutsu Kaisen launched in Weekly Shōnen Jump in March 2018 and has over 150 million copies in circulation as of December 2025, earning its place as one of the best-selling manga series of all time. The manga wrapped up on September 30, 2024. Jujutsu Kaisen won the Tsutaya Comic Award in 2019 and the Mandō Kobayashi Manga Grand Prix 2020 and was nominated for the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2021.

The story follows an ordinary, but unusually physically fit, high school student named Yuji Itadori who gets embroiled in the world of jujutsu sorcerers when he swallows a rotten finger of Ryomen Sukuna, the King of Curses. Although the jujutsu sorcerers society call for his execution, Satoru Gojo, one of the teachers at Jujutsu High and the most powerful sorcerer in history, stays his execution only until Yuji can find and swallow the rest of Sukuna’s fingers, thus allowing the world to get rid of Sukuna once and for all.

All three seasons can be streamed on Crunchyroll. Fans can read the manga on Viz Media.
