Who says girls can’t play video games–and absolutely crush them?

Young Girls Don’t Play Fighting Games dropped another trailer in anticipation of its July debut. The new teaser trailer hilariously opens with a soft introduction of Mio Yorue offering a handkerchief to Aya Mitsuki only to reveal her true personality which is a loud and angry gamer who can kick anyone’s butts at Street Fighter. Fans can also hear the opening theme song “Inochi Mijikashi Tai Suru Otome yo!” which translates to “Life is Short, Fight Each Other, Maidens!” performed by Hanabie. halca performs the ending theme song “NEW GAME.”

Ikumi Hasegawa portrays Aya Mitsuki, a new student at Kuromi Girls’ Academy. Kana Ichinose voices Mio Yorue, who is not the graceful and elegant student she appears to be. Sayaka Senbongi voices Yu Inui. Shino Shimoji portrays Tamaki Ichinose, and Maria Naganawa voices Arisa Fujimiya. The trailer also revealed that Yumiri Hanamori, Nobuyuki Hiyama, Yohei Azakami, and Taku Yashiro will join the cast as Hana Ichinose, gekido, Cafe Au Lait, and Cecil, respectively.

diomedéa will animate and produce the adaptation with Shota Ihata directing. Wataru Watari will write the series script with Mayuko Matsumoto designing the characters. Kana Hashiguchi will sign on as the composer.

Written and illustrated by Eri Ejima, the yuri manga debuted in Monthly Comic Flapper on January 4, 2020 and currently has ten tankobon volumes as of December 2025. Volume 11 comes out on July 22, 2026 in Japan. A live-action web drama adaptation was streamed on Lemino in May 2023 for eight episodes.

Mitsuki Aya has one goal at the elite Kuromi Girls’ Academy: to become a refined young lady like the school’s flawless “White Lily,” Yorue Mio. But her image of Mio shatters when Aya accidentally catches her…playing fighting games?! Turns out, the elegant Mio is actually a hardcore gamer—and she wants to duel Aya! The battle (and their friendship) begins.

Young Girls Don’t Play Fighting Games debuts on July 7 with Crunchyroll streaming the anime. Seven Seas holds the English license for the manga series.
