Why emaqi Premium Matters
emaqi launched in 2024 as a digital cross-publisher manga platform, and Premium represents the company’s subscription play in a market still dominated by pay-per-volume models. CEO Shoko Ugaki framed the move as part of a healthier manga ecosystem: “emaqi Premium contributes to a healthier manga ecosystem by creating more opportunities for officially licensed works to be discovered and supported by readers worldwide”.
At $6.99 for 400+ series—with more on the way—emaqi Premium is positioning itself as a serious alternative to piracy and a complement to existing services. The addition of VIZ titles will only strengthen its case.
