Blue Box has announced a second season with a new director taking over.
Netflix has announced that the platform will stream the second season of the sports romance anime Blue Box in October. Daisuke Sato will now direct with Electric Circus taking over as the animation studio. Yuko Kakihara and Miho Tanino who were the series composers and character designers for Season 1 will return for the second season. UNLIMITED PRODUCE by TMS will serve as the project producer. Yoshino Aoyama will join Season 2 as Yumeka Goto.

The animation for Season 1 of Blue Box was helmed by Telecom Animation Film with UNLIMITED PRODUCE by TMS overlooking the planning and production. Yuichiro Yano directed the first season. Shoya Chiba voiced Taiki Inomata and Reina Ueda voiced Chinatsu Kano.
Written and illustrated by Kouji Miura, Blue Box began serialization in Weekly Shōnen Jump in April 2021. The manga initially began as a one-shot in 2020 and is available to read on the platform. The story revolves around the relationship between Taiki Inomata and Chinatsu Kano. Taiki is in love with his upper classmate Chinatsu and trains everyday with her, despite being on two completely different teams — one badminton and the other basketball. Suddenly, Taiki finds himself seeing more and more of Chinatsu when she moves in with his family after her parents have to work abroad. The manga focuses on the two’s budding relationship as they work towards playing in nationals for their respective sports.
Blue Box has over nine million copies in circulation as of October 2025. The story has earned a nomination for Best Print Manga at the Next Manga Award in 2021.
Blue Box is available to read on Viz Media and Manga Plus. The first season can be streamed on Netflix with Season 2 premiering on October 4 for Japanese television.
