Thrice Married to a Salted Fish Displays How Love Can Transcend Time and Death in Final Volume

thrice married to a salted fish vol 4

Third time’s the charm, right?

After two cycles of death and rebirth, Lin Qingyu finally reunites with his husband for the third, and hopefully, last time. The cover of the fourth volume of Thrice Married to a Salted Fish showcases Lin Qingyu leaning against his husband Jiang Xing who is sporting a shorter haircut. The Thrice Married to a Salted Fish covers are unique in that Mio, the cover artist, uses watercolor paints for their artwork. Mulliga K. handled the interior artwork. Mimi, Huayu, and Eli translated the series.

Written by Bi Ka Bi, Thrice Married to a Salted Fish is a fan favorite danmei that was licensed by Seven Seas in October 2024. “Salted fish” is a Chinese metaphor for someone who doesn’t do much except laze around. As painful as Vol. 3’s cover is, the title was pretty clear about what was going to happen: Lin Qingyu was going to marry his beloved salted fish three times.

Lin Qingyu is an aspiring physician who has spent the last decade devoting himself to his craft, working tirelessly. Those 10 years of study and research are all for naught when he’s forced into an arranged marriage with Lu Wancheng, the sickly son of the marquis. Lin Qingyu is devastated but when he meets his new husband, he realizes Lu Wancheng is bright and has an idea to help Lin Qingyu fulfill his dreams.

The synopsis for the final volume reads as follows:

Lin Qingyu’s late husband Jiang Xing has returned: this time, in the body of the new emperor himself. But that powerful role could impede them when it comes to resuming their romance. People throughout the palace—from servants to the empress dowager herself—have a close eye on the emperor, and strong convictions about how his reign should unfold. If Jiang Xing insists on remarrying his widow, will he overplay his hand?

But the two of them are not destined to stay confined to the world of the court. After all they’ve gone through with the cycles of Jiang Xing’s death and rebirth, the final challenge may be the most difficult yet. Will their love survive if they’re forced to leave the palace behind?

Vol. 4 of Thrice Married to a Salted Fish releases on October 13.
