This review is a long time coming. I actually committed to writing it back in April 2025 for a different outlet. (I’m very sorry, Lauren and Penguin Random House.) A lot has happened since then—professionally and personally—and I’m still not where I want to be. But this morning called for breakfast, and breakfast meant pancakes. Which meant it was Poseidon’s time to shine.
I dusted off my copy of The Official Lore Olympus Cookbook and flipped to Poseidon’s Kitty-Shaped Pancakes. Thankfully, I had all the ingredients on hand:
- Milk
- Apple cider vinegar
- Flour
- Baking powder
- Baking soda
- Granulated sugar
- Salt
- Butter
- Unsweetened cocoa powder
- Vanilla extract
- Egg
I also had a squeeze bottle I bought last year for this exact purpose. (No regrets.)

Unlike some cookbooks I’ve tried—looking at you, Genshin Impact—the instructions in The Official Lore Olympus Cookbook were clear and easy to follow. The hardest part was trying to draw the cats. But honestly, that’s 100% my fault. I didn’t mix the chocolate batter well enough, which led to clumps getting stuck in the squeeze bottle’s spout. So, don’t be me! Mix your batter well.

I cooked the pancakes for about two minutes on each side, varying between pancakes as I played Meowdoku while cooking—as you can tell by the varying shades of doneness. (Real A+ cooking behavior here.) In spite of me, the pancakes turned out incredible. They weren’t too starchy like some diner pancakes, and they were very enjoyable to eat.

This is definitely a winning recipe. My only note: if you plan on feeding more than two people, double it. The batch was perfect for a cozy breakfast for two, but a hungry crowd will want more.
The Official Lore Olympus Cookbook delivers on both charm and function. The recipes are approachable, the instructions are clear, and the results are genuinely delicious. Whether you’re a longtime fan of the webcomic or just looking for a fun cookbook to add to your shelf, this one earns its place in the kitchen.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have leftover pancakes to finish. And maybe a few more recipes to test.
