The story of Ascendance of a Bookworm continues in a fifth season.
Shortly after the conclusion of the fourth season, Ascendance of a Bookworm has announced that it will adapt the fourth part of the light novel called “Founder of the Royal Academy’s So-Called Library Committee.” Wit Studio will animate the fifth season, but it is unclear if Yoshiaki Iwasaki will return to direct Part 4.

Ascendance of a Bookworm first premiered in October 2019 for 14 episodes, covering Part 1 of the light novel. The second season launched in April 2020, adapting the first two volumes of Part 2 of the light novel, with a third season premiering in April 2022 and covering the last two volumes of Part 2 of the light novel. Airing in April 2026, Season 4 adapted Part 3 of the light novel.
Wit Studio landed in some controversy when they admitted to using Generative AI for its opening theme song for Part 3 and “accepted full responsibility.” The studio promised to rerelease the opening theme song with human-drawn artwork.
Based on the light novel series written by Miya Kazuki and illustrated by You Shiina, Ascendance of a Bookworm ran from September 2013 to March 2017 on Shosetsuka ni Naro before being acquired by TO Books. The main story concluded in December 2023 in thirty-three volumes. The light novel inspired a manga adaptation with Suzuka illustrating and is currently adapting Part 4.
Ascendance of a Bookworm follows a bookworm who dies under a pile of books during an earthquake. She makes one last wish: to be reincarnated in a world where she can read. However, when she reawakens, she finds herself now as the five-year-old Myne and the world does have books–but only for the elite. What is there for Myne to do but to make her own books for her to read?
The light novels are available to read on J-Novel Club as well as the manga adaptations. The fourth season is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
