Grimes and Japanese Vocaloid producer SatapanP have released their collaborative single “Miku-Maxxing,” created using the globally renowned virtual singer Hatsune Miku. The track is available now on all major streaming platforms alongside its official music video.
“Miku-Maxxing” is the first official single from the forthcoming collaborative EP EMERGE M♡DE MIKU, which was first unveiled during the sold-out JAPAN MUSIC VOCALOID showcase at Anime Expo in Los Angeles. The release marks the official launch of BEYOND BORDERs, a global initiative from leading Japanese IT and media company Dwango. The project aims to introduce Vocaloid culture to new audiences by connecting Japan’s pioneering creators with leading artists, producers, and songwriters in the United States.
EMERGE M♡DE MIKU features an unprecedented lineup of artists creating original music using Hatsune Miku:
- Artists: Grimes, Odetari, George Clanton, Frost Children, slayr, and XAMIYA
- Vocaloid Producers: jon-YAKITORY, SatapanP, and picco
The EP brings together Japan’s Vocaloid scene with contemporary Western music, exploring the intersection of music, technology, and virtual creativity.
The official music video unfolds in a surreal, game-inspired Cyberland, where Hatsune Miku and a lone heroine race through a collapsing digital world overtaken by glitches and corrupted code. Blending low-poly visuals, painterly animation, and mixed-media design, the video captures the project’s imaginative fusion of music, technology, and virtual storytelling.
Following today’s release of “Miku-Maxxing,” additional singles will continue to roll out ahead of the full EP release in September.
BEYOND BORDERs is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious Vocaloid projects to date, bridging Japanese and Western music scenes through Hatsune Miku. “Miku-Maxxing” is out now—watch the video and hear where the project is headed.
