The Got Dropped Into a Ghost Story, Still Gotta Work novel will be going on a hiatus due to their health.

On August 11, Baek Deok-su, the writer behind the supernatural horror novel, announced that they will have to take a short break because they have to get surgery. They did not have a firm return date but estimated it may take them upwards of two months for them to recover. The latest chapter was Chapter 407.

This is Baek Deok-su, the author of “Even If I Fall Into a Ghost Story, I Still Have to Go to Work.”A recent health examination revealed an abnormality, and I was informed that I need to undergo surgery. The surgery has now been scheduled at a tertiary/general hospital, so I will unfortunately have to go on an urgent hiatus starting this week. Since it has not been long since Part 3 began, I feel very sorry to have to share this news. Including the surgery and recovery period, I expect to be on hiatus for approximately one and a half to two months before I can return to serialization. I will provide more detailed information about the return schedule at a later date. I am very sorry and disappointed about this. I will do my best to recover well so that I can return healthy and continue writing the novel.

The webnovel landed on top of the list in the 2025 annual rankings of all genres on Kakaopage and over 370 million and counting views since its serialization in October 2024. Just three months after its debut, the webnovel accumulated more than 100 million views and has consistently sold out on merch in popup shops and exhibitions.

The story follows a young man who transmigrates into a ghost story. Despite falling into a ghost story, Kim Soleum still has to work and as a rookie at a huge and famous conglomerate, he’s tasked to solve mysteries and urban legends, but as a passionate horror and ghost story enthusiast, he makes quick work of it.

Got Dropped Into a Ghost Story, Still Gotta Work was recently adapted into a manhwa on June 5 with Ssungnyung as the artist. The manhwa garnered huge numbers in its debut, amassing six million views after a day of landing on Kakaopage.

There is no official English translation of both the novel and manhwa.
