An old friend comes back in Chinatsu’s life in the second season of Blue Box.
A trailer for Blue Box Season 2 has dropped, revealing Yumeka Goto, Chinatsu’s old teammate and friend. The two played well together when they were in middle school but something had happened and Yumeka seems to hold a grudge against Chinatsu. In one scene, Yumeka slaps Taiki after he yells at her. The opening theme song, “Anata no Hana no Iro,” performed by aiko and the ending theme song “blue in,” performed by elsewhere kikou, were also heard.

The animation for Season 1 of Blue Box was helmed by Telecom Animation Film with UNLIMITED PRODUCE by TMS overlooking the planning and production. Daisuke Sato will now direct the second season at Electric Circus. Yuichiro Yano directed the first season. Shoya Chiba voiced Taiki Inomata and Reina Ueda voiced Chinatsu Kano.
Written and illustrated by Kouji Miura, Blue Box began serialization in Weekly Shōnen Jump in April 2021. The manga initially began as a one-shot in 2020 and is available to read on the platform. The story revolves around the relationship between Taiki Inomata and Chinatsu Kano. Taiki is in love with his upper classmate Chinatsu and trains everyday with her, despite being on two completely different teams — one badminton and the other basketball. Suddenly, Taiki finds himself seeing more and more of Chinatsu when she moves in with his family after her parents have to work abroad. The manga focuses on the two’s budding relationship as they work towards playing in nationals for their respective sports.
Blue Box has over nine million copies in circulation as of October 2025. The story has earned a nomination for Best Print Manga at the Next Manga Award in 2021.
Blue Box is available to read on Viz Media and Manga Plus. The first season can be streamed on Netflix with Season 2 premiering on October 4 on Netflix.
