The heroes and villains are about to leap off the page and onto the screen.

As reported by Variety, Hero Killer has received an animated adaptation with co-production by Passion Paris and ADN. David Pagaille (Moonlit Bamboo Forest) will direct the series. A key visual was released alongside an exclusive illustration by the original creators to celebrate the adaptation. Information about the voice cast, staff, and release window has not yet been made available as of this article’s writing.

Caroline Audebert, managing director of Passion Paris, called Hero Killer a “bold, emotionally charged story with a fascinating heroine at its centre.” The reason why the studio was so captivated by the story was because the series aligned with Passion Paris’s creative mission of looking for projects that pushed them creatively. “Hero Killer offers a rare combination of cinematic action, compelling characters and an expansive universe.”

Passion Pictures has animated some shorts including a short called Rocket & Groot, Ant-Man, Not a Box, Enough, Love, Death & Robots: ICE, and so much more. Passion Pictures is currently developing an anime-adjacent Japanese robot samurai saga Yojimbot.

Bastien Guetta, head of content development at ADN, agreed with Audebert’s sentiment, calling the webcomimc as “one of the most exciting and visually striking action webtoons of its generation.” Guetta continued, “Beyond its spectacular battles and unique visual identity, it features a compelling heroine and a rich cast of characters that have already captivated millions of readers worldwide.”

Written by Kkulbeol and illustrated by Beolkkul, Hero Killer launched on Naver WEBTOON on February 25, 2021 and is currently ongoing. The webtoon made its English debut not long after on May 10, 2021 and has since amassed a whopping 111.3 million views as of this article’s writing.

WEBTOON describes the story:

The world is in constant turmoil, with constant wars breaking out between Heroes and Villains. Gifted with supernatural abilities, one lone girl sets out on a bloody path for revenge against the injustices of the world she lives in. With the constant clashes between titans, no one is safe. If no one is willing to protect the innocent, who are the real heroes, and who are the real villains? What truly separates one from the other?

Hero Killer can be read on WEBTOON.
