Yugi and the gang are celebrating Kazuki Takahashi in a special way.
Yu-Gi-Oh! released a special animation video for the art exhibition of the mangaka, “Kazuki Takahashi Original Art Exhibition: YU-GI-OH! ART WORKS.” The video brings back all of the beloved characters from the original series like Kuriboh, Dark Magician, Blue Eyes White Dragon, Duke Devlin, Mai Valentine, and of course, Yugi and his friends Joey, Tristan, Tea, Bakura, and begrudgingly Kaiba. Atem also makes an appearance at the end.
Admission into the exhibit will cost 2,200 yen for adults, 1,400 yen for junior high and high school students, 900 yen for elementary school students, and 3,900 yen for those who purchase the special tickets with the “Proof of he Duel King” card set.
Visitors will be able to see over 370 original hand-drawn manga manuscripts, reference materials, rough sketches, and color illustrations created during and after the manga’s serialization.
Written and illustrated by Kazuki Takahashi, Yu-Gi-Oh! debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump and sold more than 40 million copies worldwide. The success of the manga spawned a trading card game that was published by Konami and made it into the Guiness World Records as the best-selling trading card game in history. The game has sold approximately 35 billion cards as of January 2021. Yu-Gi-Oh! has also inspired a novel adaptation and video game.
Takahashi died in July 2022 when he drowned after helping to rescue three people caught in a rip current.
Yu-Gi-Oh! follows a young high schooler named Yugi Muto who completes an ancient Egypt artifact called the Millennium Puzzle. In doing so, he unlocks the spirit residing within who takes over Yugi’s body whenever he has to duel. Together, Yugi and the spirit who later on discovers he’s a pharaoh from ancient Egypt who has lost all his memories, fight foes who seek to use the Millennium Items to control the world while also searching for clues to piece together the unnamed pharaoh’s memories.
The art exhibit will run from December 12, 2026 to February 21, 2027 at Creative Museum Tokyo.
