The Moon on a Rainy Night Sends Hearts Racing in Sweet PV

The Moon on a Rainy Night is going to be so sweet, it’ll make your heart melt.

A new PV for the anime adaptation of the yuri manga The Moon on a Rainy Night was released and throws viewers into the setting already. Rain falls, and the only things that can be heard are the soft pitter-patter of the rain and Saki and Kanon’s voices that eventually overlap into one voice. Saki, on the way to lessons, accidentally bumps into a girl who doesn’t respond when she tries to make conversation. She quickly reunites with the girl who she learns is named Kanon and is hard of hearing. Kanon intentionally puts a wall between her and everyone else because she doesn’t think they’ll be able to understand each other–a fact that Saki disagrees with.

CompTown will animate and produce the series with Tomoe Makino helming the anime as the director. Shogo Yasukawa will write the sereis scripts, Ayumi Nishibata will be in charge of character designs, and jizue will compose the music. Iori Saeki will voice Saki Kindaichi while Sora Amamiya will portray Kanon Oikawa.

Written and illustrated by Kuzushiro, The Moon on a Rainy Night has been praised for its artwork and storytelling as well as the sensitive handling of Kanon’s disability. The manga was nominated for the Next Manga Awards in the digital category for two consecutive years and has been recommended on a number of lists for libraries and schools. The manga has been serialized on Kodansha’s Comic Days website since June 2021.

Kodansha USA describes the story:

One rainy night, Saki is rushing to a piano lesson when she crashes into a beautiful, long-haired girl, dropping her sheet music in the process. Saki stutters an apology, but the girl simply hands back her sheet music and leaves without a word. Saki begins her first day of high school the following morning, only to find the stranger from the night before sitting at the desk next to hers. She learns that the girl’s name is Kanon and that she is not quite completely deaf, but very hard of hearing. Though Kanon needs to be close to people to read their lips, she tends to push people away with her icy demeanor. Through one kind gesture, Saki slowly begins breaking down the walls around Kanon, even as she feels something new blossoming within her.

The Moon on a Rainy Night will release in 2027.
