Bongcheon-dong Ghost

Who’s ready to get jump-scared in real life?

Horror webtoon Bongcheon-Dong Ghost will receive a live-action film adaptation. Arin and Yoon Chan-young have confirmed their roles for the film and the film has already begun production. Arin will play Soo Yeon, a woman who gets possessed by a ghost, while Yoon will play Tae Oh, a man who can see ghosts. The two will work together to discover the origins of the curse that traps Bongcheon-dong.

The film will reportedly expand on the original short webtoon and include “everyday horror” that includes strange things happening in apartment buildings, elevators, and alleyways.

In the webtoon, the story follows a student who meets a female ghost searching for her baby. Terrified of the sight, the student randomly points in a direction. When she tries to run back home, she hears a bloodcurdling scream from the ghost. The ghost pounces on her and the student faints. When she awakes, she hears from her neighbor that a woman had committed suicide after losing custody of her daughter. After the woman died, people in Bongcheon-Dong have reported seeing a ghost wandering around the apartment complex.

Written and illustrated by Horang, Bongcheon-Dong Ghost is part of a collection of short horror webcomics called The Vault of Horror: A Collection of Nightmares (Korean version). The webcomic was first published in August 2011 on Naver Webtoon before it was released in English on WEBTOON on September 17, 2011.

Bongcheon-Dong Ghost is available to read on WEBTOON. A release date for the film has not been announced yet.
