Drowning Sorrows in Raging Fire will soon end but Rosmei will make sure that fans have the best version possible.
The independent publisher has a surprise for the final volume of the danmei Drowning Sorrows in Raging Fire. The fifth volume will have a multi-panel screen that can be used as a standalone display piece or a foldable outer layer that wraps around all five volumes. The outer part is white with red detailing but once it’s open, the inside showcases Sheng Lingyuan at the forefront. Fans will have to wait to see it in all its glory as preorders for the fourth volume have just concluded.
Rosmei had clearly designed this edition with a lot of care. According to their tweets, they say:
The design on the side of the panel facing outwards represents the birth of the Fateforged Sword, as well as the raging flames of the Crimson Abyss. The inner art depicts Sheng Lingyuan and Xuan Ji’s story across all 5 volumes.
When wrapped around the books, the panels fit together to reveal 36 red dots representing the Vermillion Bird bone seal.
We’ve included a red thread—a nod at an important, emotional moment between our couple—that can then be fixed with Xuan Ji’s coin, depicting joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness.
Readers can thread the red thread through 8 out of the 36 dots, while the red cloth completes the seal.
In this final volume, come seal the Crimson Abyss together with the Anomaly Regulation Bureau, creating a better world for humans and yao alike.
Drowning Sorrows in Raging Fire (Lie Huo Jiao Chou) combines urban fantasy and mythology. The story follows Xuan Ji, a millennial who starts a new job at the Reparations Department of the Deviant Control Office and meets Sheng Lingyuan, a mysterious man who had died long ago and was inexplicably summoned back to the mortal world. As the two work together to unravel the mystery behind Sheng Lingyuan’s return, the two discover they share a past rife with conspiracy.
A donghua adaptation aired in October 2021 and finished in December with 12 episodes with no announcement of a second season as of this article’s publishing. The Japanese dub aired on Jan. 8, 2024.
Preorders for the fifth and last volume are not yet open.
