My Reason to Die will inspire a live-action drama series.
The popular webtoon has offered roles to Roh Yoon-seo and Lee Chae-min and the two actors have reportedly accepted. Roh will play Nam Ji Oh, a high school senior who suffers an injury just before she tries out for the national taekwondo team, and Lee will play Cha Gyeol, an intense boy who has a secret connected to Ji Oh’s past.
YUJU wrote and illustrated the manhwa and it released on Naver WEBTOON on December 6, 2021 for a total of 101 episodes. The official English translation was released on May 2, 2022 and has amassed 60.4 million views as of this article’s writing. YUJU also wrote the romance series The Distance Between Us.
WEBTOON’s synopsis for My Reason to Die is as follows:
Ji-o’s luck runs out when she gets injured before the tryouts for the national taekwondo team. In the middle of facing what seems to be the biggest crisis of her life, she meets Gyeol, a mysterious boy who changes her life forever. He’s the definition of a bad boy with a good heart, and she finds herself unable to resist his charms. However, she might be playing with fire as he’s someone who’s involved with the wrong crowd. Is falling for Gyeol worth the risk?
Lee has appeared in Love All Play as Lee Ji-ho and the drama adaptation of the webcomic See You in My 19th Life as Kang Min-ki. He starred in Bon Appétit, Your Majesty as King Lee Heon.
Roh debuted in the 2022 television series Our Blues as Bang Yeong-ju then was in Crash Course in Romance the year after where she received the “Best New Actress – Television” Award at the Baeksang Arts Awards for her role as Nam Hae-yi. Her role as Seo Yeo-reum in the 2024 film Hear Me: Our Summer earned her “Best New Actress – Film” in 2025. She also received a nomination for “Best New Actress” at the Blue Dragon Film Awards.
