Lord of Mysteries Author Announces New Novel in May

The next book from Cuttlefish That Loves Diving, the novelist behind Lord of Mysteries, will release very soon.

Yuewen announced that Jian Zhu Da Huang, an Eastern fantasy novel, will launch globally on Chinese and English platforms.The platform also was explicit that the English version will be translated by humans and in an age where AI translations run rampant, this is a welcome note. It is unclear if there will be an English translation of the title. The novel launches on Qidian and Webnovel on May 30.

Little is known about the synopsis other than that it’s a xuanhuan genre which combines fantasy, science fiction, and wuxia (martial arts). Xuanhuan basically combines everything under the sun and can often incorporate modern elements and concepts and is not restricted by the conventions or rules of traditional mythology.

Prior to Lord of Mysteries, Cuttlefish That Loves Diving’s first titles were standalone works with the first debuting in 2011. After writing four standalone titles, the author released Lord of Mysteries in 2018 that ran until 2020. Three years later, the extra stories were published. A sequel, titled Circle of Inevitability, was released in 2023. The main story and sequel are both available in English on Webnovel. Yen Press publishes the print version of Lord of Mysteries with the third volume recently released.

Lord of Mysteries, which incorporates steampunk, xuanhuan, and Lovecraftian horror, inspired a donghua adaptation that streamed on Crunchyroll. Following the first season, BC May Pictures announced a 10-year roadmap for the donghua with seven seasons, three special episodes, and a movie. Should the production and animation studio stick with the plan, Lord of Mysteries‘ donghua will end in 2035.
