Another assassin takes center stage for Joyful Reunion.
Seven Seas unveiled the cover for Vol. 5 of Joyful Reunion, designed by Porridge, featuring Duan Ling and Zheng Yan, one of the four great assassins. The two sit on the steps, both nursing a jar of alcohol. Duan Ling has a pensive look on his face while Zheng Yan glances at him out of the corner of his eye. Ruthie will illustrate the artwork inside the book. Mimi, Suika, and yunyun worked on the translation, with a special thanks to Foxghost.
Written by Fei Tian Ye Xiang, or Arise Zhang, Joyful Reunion follows Duan Ling, a young boy who has been abused and mistreated ever since he can remember. One day, a mysterious man named Lang Junxia arrives at his deceased mother’s family’s home, claiming that Duan Ling’s father, whom he has never known, had sent him… and that he would be able to finally meet his father. It turns out that Duan Ling’s destiny is far greater than he imagined–one that carries the weight of the empire on his shoulders.
Seven Seas’ synopsis for Vol. 5 is as follows:
Duan Ling and Wu Du make a desperate bid to break out of the Mongol siege at Luoyan, escorting Yelü Zongzhen, the emperor of Liao, to safety in Southern Chen. Riding with them is the captured Lang Junxia, whose loyalties remain as unreadable as ever. Is he Duan Ling’s enemy, or is there some hidden purpose behind his betrayal? And if it came to it—could Duan Ling really bring himself to kill him?
Meanwhile, the secret of Duan Ling’s true identity grows harder to keep with each passing day. As he remains stuck in the north, fighting to secure the nation’s precarious border, both Cai Yan and Mu Kuangda are closing in on him from the capital. If Duan Ling is exposed before his plans are set, even Wu Du’s unwavering protection may not be enough to save him.
Vol. 5 of Joyful Reunion comes out on September 15.
