The Liar Game isn’t for the faint of heart. Only the most cunning and devious can survive. So what the heck is Nao Kanzaki doing here?
The latest PV trailer for the anime adaptation of Liar Game has dropped on REMOW’s channel, introducing the characters as well as a sneak peek into the various games that the 22 contestants will have to play in, competing against and lying to each other to cheat the other participants out of their money. The losers not only lose their money, but they’ll also be saddled with a debt proportional to their losses.
Madhouse will animate and produce the adaptation with Asami Kawano directing with Yuzo Sato as the chief director. Tatsuhiko Urahata will write the series script with Kei Tsuchiya designing the characters and Kisuke Koizumi as the sound director. Yugo Kanno will compose the soundtrack. yorushika performed the opening theme song “Bubble” with Lucky Kilimanjaro taking the ending theme song “Asahi.”
Portraying the painfully naive protagonist Nao Kanzaki is Saya Hitomi. Opposite her is the ex-convict and conman Shinichi Akiyama who will be voiced by Takeo Otsuka. Nobuo Tobita will voice Kazuo Fujisawa, Nao’s former teacher and her first opponent. Yoji Ueda voices Leronira, one of the masked hosts of Liar Game.
Written and illustrated by Shinobu Kaitani, Liar Game ran from February 2005 to January 2015 in Weekly Young Jump. A short story, Liar Game: Roots of A was released in July 2008 with another series called Liar Game: The Last Game serializing in February 2025 in Grand Jump Mucha.
Liar Game has enjoyed various adaptations, all of which are live action. The first was a Japanese two-season television series that aired in 2007 and 2009. A film continuation called Liar Game: The Final Stage was released in 2010 with a sequel Liar Game: Reborn released two years after. A Korean adaptation was released in 2014.
Liar Game premieres on April 7 on Crunchyroll (excluding Japan and China) although those at Sakura Con will be able to watch the first two episodes early on April 5. There is no official English translation for the manga.
