Well… let’s hope this is a case of “It looks worse than it actually is.”

Seven Seas Entertainment revealed the sixth volume cover of Legend of Exorcism and it’s an eerie callback to the first volume. The first volume featured Hongjun and Li Jinglong gazing at each other with the latter gently holding the pendant that hung from Hongjun’s neck. This volume sees Hongjun supporting an unconscious Li Jinglong as Hongjun tries to save him. Ruthie illustrated the cover as well as the interior illustrations. Eli and Louise translated the series.

Legend of Exorcism was one of the few danmei with a special edition first cover–a testament to its popularity within the danmei fan community. Written by Fei Tian Ye Xiang (Arise Zhang), this high fantasy danmei follows Hongjun a half-yao who has been living a sheltered life up on the mountains for as long as he can remember when one day, he’s tasked to leave home and join the Great Tang Department of Demonic Exorcism in Chang’an. There, he meets Li Jinglong, a soldier who, despite having no spiritual powers, leads a team of talented exorcists. As Hongjun helps Li Jinglong and his team fight against dark forces and the bond between them grows, he begins to wonder if he can trust this yao-hating soldier.

Seven Seas describes Vol. 6 as below:

Freed at last from the Dragon-Quelling Tower, Hongjun and Li Jinglong race to intercept An Lushan’s advancing rebel army. With every city his horde of humans and yao devours, An Lushan’s demonic power swells. If he is allowed to march unchecked to Chang’an, the exorcists fear he will truly become the heavenly demon Mara and raze the mortal world.

Now more than ever, the exorcists are relying on Li Jinglong—both his foolproof plans and the divine power of his heart lamp, their sole weapon against An Lushan until they can secure the six artifacts of Acalanatha. But after suffering Acalanatha’s rejection in the Dragon-Quelling Tower, Li Jinglong’s confidence is badly shaken. Can Hongjun stand to watch Li Jinglong hurl himself recklessly into danger yet again? And if Li Jinglong is not the true heir to Acalanatha’s artifacts, who is?

Vol. 6 of Legend of Exorcism releases on August 11.
