The Painter of the Night is coming alive in a short drama.

Lezhin Snacks has dropped the trailer and key visual for its short drama adaptation of one of the most popular Korean BL in the 2020s, Painter of the Night. The trailer, although only taking one minute, seems to be implying that it will adapt the entirety of the story. It is unclear how many episodes it will have but the other dramas on Lezhin Snacks seem to be around 50 or so episodes. Each episode will run for around two minutes.

The drama was produced by Kidari Studio, Lezhin Entertainment, Doodoong, and Mongjakso. Choi Bokyung will serve as the director. Ji Min-seo and Kim Kang-jae star as Baek Nakyum and Yoon Seungho, respectively.

Despite ending in 2023, Painter of the Night remains as one of Lezhin Entertainment’s top BL title. The manhwa launched on the English platform on June 12, 2019 and concluded with 129 episodes on November 10, 2023. Painter of the Night also won “Best Webtoon” at the Chil-Chil BL Awards in 2024 and 2025. Byeonduck, the writer and illustrator, has previously teased that the role reversal AU side stories will release in early 2026.

The announcement of the drama adaptation and the subsequent trailer drop, as a result, has received mixed reactions from fans who have been looking forward to more Painter of the Night content but remain dubious if a story of such highly erotic nature can be told faithfully.

The story follows a young painter named Baek Na-kyum who has an extraordinary talent for homoerotica painting. His paintings, authored under a pen name, catches the attention of Yoon Seungho, the son of a nobleman who is notorious for engaging in sodomy. Seungho forces Na-kyum to be his private painter to recreate his nightly exploits.

Painter of the Night can be read on Lezhin. The drama drops on May 28.
