The zombies are coming alive in a YA film.

As per Variety‘s report, Lion Forge Entertainment and WEBTOON Productions will collaborate on a live-action YA film adaptation of ShootAround. Aiyana K. White (Severance) will write the screenplay based on a draft by Mike Dow and Devon Kelly. David Steward II, Lion Forge Entertainment founder and CEO, and Stephanie Sperber, president and chief creative officer, will produce on Lion Forge’s side. On WEBTOON’s side, David Madden, president, and Jason Goldberg, head of global film, will executive produce.

White was excited to work on the project, stating that she “devoured” the entire first season in one sitting. “I was taken not only with how funny and absurd it was, but also with how much heart was at the center of it. I’m so excited to bring such a fun, unique world to life.”

Sperber described ShootAround as a “bold, high-concept world.” Goldberg echoed her sentiments, calling the adaptation as one fans have been anticipating for a long time.

“When the zombie apocalypse makes its way to high school, all bets are off, and we knew the hilarious and horrific moments in ‘ShootAround’ would make for a one-of-a-kind, genre-blending film adaptation,” Goldberg said. “We’re thrilled to have the incredibly talented Aiyana K. White and the exceptional producing team at Lion Forge as our teammates on this project.”

Written and illustrated by Suspu, ShootAround launched on WEBTOON on March 6, 2015 and is completed with 135 episodes and an epilogue on March 31, 2017. The zombie webcomic has garnered 28.2 million views on the platform. Suspu is currently working on The Tattletale Fool.

WEBTOON describes the story:

When a zombie apocalypse hits during the practice of a high school basketball team, it’s a whole new life for the coach, Jeff. The world’s turned upside down and the girls seem to be handling the changes way better than Jeff, who has troubles adjusting. A close-knit group of friends, the girls are eager to tackle this new world with its challenges!

ShootAround joins WEBTOON Production’s growing list of webcomic-to-live-action-project adaptations, which includes Lore Olympus with Amazon Prime Video. Details around the casting and other staff on the production team have not been revealed as of this article’s writing.
