Chainsaw Man may make some history.

“IRIS OUT,” the opening theme song of the Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze, has been submitted for the 2027 Grammys in the “Best Song Written for Visual Media” and “Best Asian Pop Music Performance” categories, the latter of which is a new category added to the Grammys this year. This does not mean that “IRIS OUT” is a Grammy nominee (yet) but this is a significant achievement in and of itself as no song written for a Japanese anime production has ever been submitted anyway. The music video can be viewed below:

Released on September 15, 2025, “IRIS OUT” was written and produced by the singer. The music video has amassed 233 million views on YouTube as of this article’s writing.

The song has won numerous awards including “Best Anime Song” at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards, “Song of the Year by Streaming (Japan)” at the Japan Gold Disc Awards, and won “Best J-Pop Song” and scored nominations for “Song of the Year” and “Best Anime Song” at the Music Awards Japan. The song hit the top of the Japan Hot 100 charts, peaked at #2 at the Oricon charts, and peaked at #5 at the Billboard Global 200 charts–the highest a Japanese song has ever gotten.

Yonezu is no stranger to Chainsaw Man fans as he performed the opening theme song “KICK BACK” for the first season which also ranked high on the music charts and earned “Best Anime Song Award” at the Reiwa Anisong Awards. He also performed the ending theme song for the movie “Jane Doe” with Hikaru Utada.

The first-round voting begins on October 12 and ends on the 22nd. Nominations for the Grammys will be announced on November 16 with the ceremony taking place on February 7, 2027.
