Blue Lock live-action

Get ready to witness ego on a whole new scale.

The live-action adaptation of the hit soccer manga and anime Blue Lock has released a new trailer, giving fans their best look yet at the high-stakes battle to create the world’s greatest striker. The film is set to hit theaters in Japan on August 7, 2026 .

The latest promotional video showcases the brutal reality of the Blue Lock project. Set in a high-tech, prison-like facility, 300 of Japan’s best young strikers are pitted against each other in a winner-take-all tournament. The trailer is packed with intense soccer action, featuring fluid footwork, powerful shots, and the kind of psychological warfare the series is known for.

Yusuke Taki directs the film, with a screenplay by Tetsuo Kamata. Production is handled by CREDEUS, the studio behind the successful live-action adaptations of Kingdom and Golden Kamuy.

The release is strategically timed to coincide with the 2026 FIFA World Cup, tapping into the global soccer fever. The synopsis echoes the anime’s start: following Japan’s disappointing 2018 World Cup performance, the Japan Football Union launches the “Blue Lock” project to create an unstoppable ace striker—one with an unshakable “ego” to lead the team to victory.

The film is currently slated for a theatrical release in Japan on August 7. International release plans have not yet been announced, but given the franchise’s global popularity, fans outside Japan are likely watching closely for updates. For now, you can catch up on the original anime streaming on Crunchyroll.
