The first teaser trailer for the music drama anime Beat & Motion has just dropped.

Studio MAPPA revealed the first trailer for the anime adaptation of Beat & Motion during its 15th anniversary anime line-up. It opens up on that fateful night when Tatsuhiko comes across a random drunk woman who furiously berates him for being too pessimistic about chasing dreams after he makes fun of his friend. It sparks his childhood passion for animation once again and when his latest animation short goes viral, he reconnects with that drunk woman in an unexpected way.

Tatsuhiko Hirayama, the “motion” in the title, will be voiced by Shuichiro Umeda (Kazuhiko Nukumizu in Too Many Losing Heroines!) and Nico Kashiwagi will be voiced by Aya Gomazuru (Yuki Makihara in Liar Game). Yuki Komada will direct the adaptation with Misaki Mori writing the series composition and scripts. Kazunori Aoki will design the characters and work as the chief animation director alongside Mina Osawa. Takahiro Ogawa will be the animation producer.

Beat & Motion was the winner of the eight-part web series called Million Tag hosted by Shonen Jump+ where mangaka and editors competed for the chance to win five million yen and a chance to serialize their manga on the platform. Created by Naoki Fujita, the manga launched on February 25, 2023 and concluded on January 25, 2025 and has been compiled into six tankobon volumes.

Viz Media describes the story:

After that fateful night, Tatsuhiko posts a new animation on social media and soon finds that it’s gone viral! His favorite musician, Nico, reaches out and asks him to collaborate on a music video for one of her songs. At their first meeting, Tatsuhiko is shocked to discover that he recognizes Nico from the night that changed everything…

Beat & Motion will land on the Netflix stage in 2027.
