Team Redbeanime was in the room for NBCUniversal Japan’s Anime Expo 2026 panel—and the announcements did not disappoint.

Murciélago Anime Adaptation Announced

The biggest reveal of the panel was the anime adaptation of Murciélago, the yuri manga written and illustrated by Yoshimurakana. Described as “violent action with a yuri twist,” the series follows a former death row inmate turned government-sanctioned serial killer hunting other killers. Creator Yoshimurakana is “incredibly involved” in the adaptation, drawing sketches to help the animation team visualize the series’ distinctive aesthetic.

From Old Country Bumpkin to Master Swordsman Season 2 Premiere

Attendees were treated to an exclusive premiere of Season 2 Episode 1 before director Akio Kazumi took the stage for commentary.

When asked about the season’s themes, Kazumi offered a thoughtful reflection: “Though you’ve aged a little, you still need to keep moving.” He also announced new characters for Season 2, explaining: “We selected these characters because we want the audience to understand the feeling of aging.”

Sword Research and Authenticity

During a Q&A session, fans asked about the sword techniques depicted in the series. Kazumi revealed he personally attended swordsmanship courses in Tokyo and also practices kendo to learn more about fighting techniques—a commitment to authenticity that shows in the series’ action sequences.

NBCUniversal Japan’s panel balanced major announcements with creator insights. Murciélago fans finally have confirmation of an anime adaptation, and From Old Country Bumpkin continues to deliver the blend of action and introspection that made its first season a sleeper hit. With Kazumi’s personal sword training and Yoshimurakana’s hands-on involvement, both projects are in good hands.
