HarperCollins is fully stepping into the manga industry with its new imprint.
After acquiring the French manga publisher Kazé in 2025, HarperCollins will aim to publish three to five titles when it launches in the fall 2027 and will also publish HarperCollins Japan’s original IPs, manhwa, manhua, and original English “manga.” The imprint will include titles for children and adults.
During their industry panel at Anime NYC, Kazé revealed its first license which is SOL Sistah, an original English manga by Saxton Moore and Phillip Johnson and is described as “Ultraman
meets Power Rangers in this Pan-African, kaiju-crushing, teen slice-of-life manga starring Atomika, a goddess-turned-highschooler juggling two very different lives.”
Kazé will release five to eight titles in 2027 before ramping up to 20 to 25 titles in 2028, then 25-30 titles in 2029. Alongside its launch in 2027, the imprint will also look to expand in Brazil and Spain.
Founded in 1994, Viz Media Europe purchased Kazé in 2009 and became a division of Crunchyroll EMEA, the European anime distributor. Kazé was renamed to Crunchyroll in 2022 and when HarperCollins acquired the Crunchyroll European division, Kazé was returned to its original name, which took effect in the April 2026 catalog.
