Japan is about to give travelers a very good reason to visit the Noto Peninsula.

From July 7, 2026, through September 30, 2029, Noto Satoyama Airport (NTQ) will officially reopen as Noto Satoyama Pokémon With You Airport—the world’s first Pokémon-themed airport.

The initiative comes from the Pokémon With You Foundation’s partnership with Ishikawa Prefecture, aimed at bringing joy and revitalizing tourism after the devastating Noto Peninsula Earthquake in January 2024. The quake killed over 200 people and damaged the airport’s runway, forcing a month-long shutdown.

By transforming the airport into a Pokémon destination, the region hopes to follow in the footsteps of Kumamoto, which used One Piece statues to become one of Japan’s fastest-growing inbound destinations after the 2016 earthquake.

The terminal will feature 111 flying-type Pokémon throughout the building, turning the airport into a walkable Pokédex. A two-story atrium will display a Pikachu balloon alongside an aircraft exhibit.

A restaurant will serve Pokémon-themed pancakes and drinks, and the gift shop will stock exclusive merchandise including T-shirts, keychains, luggage tags, and tote bags. An airport express bus will also receive a Pokémon makeover, connecting Wajima and Kanazawa with sightseeing stops like the “Sylveon with LOVE” monument and Wakura Pokémon Footbath.

For Pokémon fans planning a Japan trip, Noto just became a must-visit. The airport opens July 7—mark your calendars, and maybe pack an extra suitcase for merch.
