Tokyo Revengers may have come out with its most visually pleasing and exciting opening theme song of its anime history.
Following the premiere of the fourth season “War of the Three Titans,” the official social media accounts for Tokyo Revengers released the uncredited version of the opening theme song “IGNITE,” performed by JO1. The opening opens with the various Toman members after the time skip before going back to the past. The theme song makes use of both animation and still cut-outs, mainly to introduce the important members from various gangs. It culminates in a fight between the three titans and Takemichi’s vow to save Mikey.
The ending theme song “TRICK STAR,” performed by go!go!vanillas was also released. A VCR shows at the beginning and cleverly transitions to the wheel of a motorbike. The ending theme song splits the video into halves with images shown on the bottom half for Mikey and never showing his eyes and always alone. The top half shows his friends with the exception of Takemichi whose face is also not shown, likely to symbolize how he understands Mikey’s loneliness and anger and how he wants to save him. The ending concludes with the two facing off.
LIDEN Films will animate and produce the season with Maki Kodaira taking over as director from Koichi Hatsumi who directed the previous seasons. Hatsumi will oversee the series scripts with Yasuyuki Muto. Hiroaki Tsutsumi will compose the music.
Season 1 of the anime aired between April to September 2021. Season 2, adapting the “Christmas Showdown” arc, premiered in January 2023 where it aired until April. The “Tenjiku” arc was adapted for the third season which aired between October to December 2023. Crunchyroll streamed the first season before the next two seasons were moved to Hulu in the US and Disney+ worldwide.
Based on the best-selling manga series written and illustrated by Ken Wakui, Tokyo Revengers received an anime adaptation, courtesy of Liden Films. The story follows 26-year-old loser Takemichi Hanagaki who finds out his girlfriend in middle school and her brother have been murdered by the Tokyo Manji Gang, an organization known for committing all kinds of heinous crimes. When Takemichi gets pushed in front of a train, he wakes up 12 years in the past and realizes he may be able to save his girlfriend from her tragic death. As he investigates, he realizes the Tokyo Manji Gang from 12 years ago is a very different group than the one he’s familiar with in the future.
Tokyo Revengers launched with the new season on October 2 and is listed for 13 episodes.
