The Red Thread Appears in Second Volume Cover of Panguan: The Twelfth Gate

Fans haven’t even received the first volume of Panguan: The Twelfth Gate yet and they’re probably already preordering the second volume.

Seven Seas Entertainment revealed the cover for the second volume of Panguan: The Twelfth Gate and fans were quick to notice the red string of fate threading in between Wen Shi’s fingers. Xie Wen appears in what seems to be a mirror and has a finger pressed to his lips in a shushing gesture. LINXIZHIYI illustrated the cover for the second volume with St. handling the interior artwork. Z.Yan and XiA translated the series together.

Written by Mu Su Li (Copper Coins and Three Hundred Years of Longing), Panguan: The Twelfth Gate is an urban fantasy tale about a soulless panguan who has spent the last thousand years ferrying souls onto their next life. The only way to satiate his hunger is to consume the dark miasma that surrounds the dead. And a feast arrives in his new roommate Xie Wen who, for some reason, carries a dense miasma around him. What’s more confusing is how well Xie Wen seems to know Wen Shi–even things that Wen Shi doesn’t remember about himself.

The synopsis for Vol. 2 reads:

After unwittingly walking into a cage disguised as a terrifying escape room, Wen Shi, Xie Wen, and their unlikely band of companions find themselves trapped inside a haunted mansion with a gruesome secret buried in its past. Each clue they unearth seems to contradict the last: Is the ghost haunting the halls the perpetrator of the horror—or a victim herself? As members of their party disappear one by one, Wen Shi grudgingly teams up with Xie Wen to uncover the truth.

Wen Shi has never been one to rely on others. But the longer he works alongside Xie Wen, the more strangely familiar he seems. As they unravel the house’s mystery, this enigmatic man appears to anticipate Wen Shi’s every thought…almost as if they’ve known each other for a long, long time.

The danmei has inspired an audio drama with two seasons that can be heard on MaoerFM, but this is, so far, the only adaptation of the story.

Luckily, fans don’t have to wait long for the second volume after getting the first because it comes out on December 1.
