The military doesn’t need soldiers; they need cooks!

That’s abundantly clear in the first teaser trailer of The Legend of Kitchen Soldier as it opens up with Kang Sung-jae awkwardly proclaiming that he can cook ramen to his higher-ups. His commanding officers immediately put him in the kitchen and once he’s in there, he suddenly taps into a system that allows him to turn into the equivalent of a master chef, impressing his fellow soldiers and commanding officers.

Kitchen Soldier, written and illustrated by J Robin, is a military comedy series about a young man who enlists in the military for the sole purpose of escaping his reality of a rather desolate household who suddenly rises to become a legendary cook thanks to a virtual question system. In the process of him cooking to feed his fellow soldiers, he starts uncovering the unit’s problems.

Park recently made headlines for starring in The King’s Warden which made history as the highest grossing film in history in Korea. Although he initially started as a model and child actor, Park rose to fame when he became a member of Wanna One after competing in the reality competition series Produce 101. He has since turned his attention to acting and became known for his portrayal of Yeon Si-eun in Weak Hero Class 1 and Weak Hero Class 2, the drama adaptation of the manhwa.

The Legend of Kitchen Soldier premieres on May 11. There is no announcement of an international release.
