Tappytoon Wins People’s Voice Award in Webby Awards

Tappytoon won the Webby People’s Voice Award in Entertainment, Sports & Events.

The Webby Awards announced the winners on April 21, and it revealed that the webcomic platform took the top prize in “Entertainment, Sports & Events” in the Apps, Software & Immersive category in the People’s Voice Award which is chosen through a public vote. Tappytoon won against the other nominees which include Yahoo Sports, Should I Fish Today?, and CollX. Eventbrite won the Webby Award which was chosen by the Academy based on the judges’ reviews and an analysis of the nominees.

In addition, Tappytoon was also a Webby Honoree in “Best Visual Design – Function.”

Ernest Woo, Chief Strategy Officer at Contents First which is the company behind Tappytoon, called the award an “extraordinary honor,” calling it “a profound validation of how we’re building for the fans who’ve empowered us, and we’re immensely grateful.” He continued, “We’ll keep earning that trust–making the best of serial storytelling accessible and compelling through inspired curation and intentional design.”

Established in 1996, the Webby Awards is an annual awards ceremony where the public and the judges comprised of over three thousand industry experts and technology innovators select two winners from each category. The New York Times has called the Webby’s “the Internet’s highest honor.”

Established in 2013 and based in Seoul, Korea, Tappytoon is a webcomics and webnovel platform with over 14 million readers in more than 241 countries. The app has ranked in the top five in both the Google Play and Apple App store in 135 and 121 countries, respectively. Aside from hosting English translation of Korean manhwa and webnovels, Tappytoon also has a Tappytoon Studio to produce original stories. The platform also has a merch shop called Club JEM where fans can purchase merch featuring their favorite manhwa characters.
