Summer Time Rendering is returning in 2027 as a live-action film.
The official manga account for Summer Time Rendering revealed that the live-action film adaptation will premiere in 2027. Ken Ninomiya (The Limit of Sleeping Beauty and The Midnight Maiden War) will direct. Information about the cast has not yet been revealed as of this article’s publishing. The live-action was first announced in the manga’s final chapter in February 2021 but little else was revealed since then.
Summer Time Rendering enjoyed an anime adaptation that launched in April 2022 and concluded with 25 episodes in September. Produced by OLM and helmed by Director Ayumu Watanabe, the anime stars Natsuki Hanae as Shinpei Ajiro, Anna Nagase as Ushio Kofune, Saho Shirasu as Mio Kofune, and Yoko Hikasa as Hizuru Minakata.
Written and illustrated by Yasuki Tanaka, Summer Time Rendering follows Shinpei Ajiro who returns to his hometown of Hitogashima after living in Tokyo for two years, but for a sobering event: Ushio Kofune, one of his childhood friends, suddenly passed away from a drowning incident. But when Shinpei notices something odd about Ushio’s body, he finds out that there are doppelgängers called Shadows roaming the island. And a few days before Ushio died, she and her sister met a Shadow.
The manga was serialized in Shonen Jump+ from October 2017 to February 2021 and was released digitally on Manga Plus. The English print edition was licensed by Udon Entertainment which was released in six volumes in 2022. A two-part spin-off called Summer Time Rendering 2026: The Room that Dreams of Murder was released in April 2022.
The manga has also been adapted into a light novel called Summer Time Rendering 2026: Nagumo Ryūnosuke’s 100 Views which was released in October 2022. There is no English translation of the light novel.
The anime can be streamed on Disney+ and Hulu.
