It hasn’t been that long since the third volume of Silent Reading came out and now it’s the fourth.
Seven Seas revealed the fourth volume cover of Silent Reading: Mo Du. Rylee illustrated the cover which showcases Luo Wenzhou and Fei Du walking up the stairs of what appears to be a temple, with the former holding out his hand for the latter. The waning light of the setting sun spills over the entire cover, casting a warm glow. Rylee will also provide the interior artwork. Yuka and Nande M worked on the translation together.
Written by prolific danmei writer priest, Silent Reading throws two men, Luo Wenzhou and Fei Du, into the thick of an investigation involving the mysterious murder of a young men. Luo Wenzhou, head of the Criminal Investigation Team, discovers this case is not as simple as it appears as he follows clues that lead him into dark corners–and to the cold and enigmatic CEO of the Fei Corporation, Fei Du, who once knew Luo Wenzhou when he was young.
The synopsis for Vol. 4 is below:
When several students from a prestigious private school flee campus overnight, the Yancheng Municipal Public Security Bureau launches a search—only to find one of the runaways murdered. As Sergeant Luo Wenzhou and his team investigate, they uncover a cruel ritual carried out by the students’ own peers, and powerful parents who would rather the case be forgotten.
But the ritual is only the beginning. The boy’s death is soon linked to a series of highway murders from more than a decade earlier. Following that trail, it becomes clear that all the bureau’s most recent cases contain a common thread…a thread tied to Fei Du.
Silent Reading has enjoyed a few adaptations, including a five-season audio drama, a canceled donghua adaptation, and a live-action adaptation, called Justice in the Dark, which had its own ups and downs. Starring Zhang Xincheng and Fu Xinbo, the live-action drama was first released in February 2023 with eight episodes but was then unceremoniously taken down before the rest could air in July the same year. The Japanese dubbed version premiered on March 7, 2025 and aired all 30 episodes.
Vol. 4 of Silent Reading comes out on September 8.
