Romance 101 has been confirmed for a drama adaptation.
As per several sources, Romance 101, the popular romance manhwa that debuted in 2018, has inspired a drama adaptation with casting offers extended for the three leads. Cho Yi-hyun has been offered the role of Jung Bareum, Hwang In-youp the role of Na Yuyeon, and THE BOYZ’s Younghoon as Shin Jaehyun. All three actors are currently reviewing the offers and have not yet confirmed their appearances as of this article’s writing.
Moving Pictures will produce the drama with Lee Hyung-min (Strong Woman Do Bong-soon) slated to direct.
Written and illustrated by Namsoo, Romance 101 debuted on the English WEBTOON platform on January 28, 2021 and concluded on March 2, 2023 with 152 episodes. Six spinoff chapters were released. The series has garnered 85.2 million views and has been one of the most frequently requested series to turn into a drama adaptation. Romance 101 had already inspired a live-action television series, though of Japanese origin. The series premiered on January 1, 2023.
WEBTOON’s synopsis is as follows:
Bareum’s planner might be full, but one thing she desperately needs in her diary is a date. When she is lured into joining a programming club by her friend’s hot coworker, it looks like there might be hope for her. But will her inexperience lead to her downfall? And why does she keep running into his bad-tempered friend instead?
After debuting in the 2017 television series Witch at Court, Cho has acted in both seasons of the hit television series Hospital Playlist as Jang Yoonbok. Romance 101 would not be her first webtoon-to-drama adaptation as she appeared in How to Buy a Friend as Shin Seo-jeong, the zombie series All of Us Are Dead as Choi Nam-ra, and most recently as Park Seong-a in Head Over Heels.
Hwang made his debut in the drama adaptation of the webtoon The Tale of Nokdu as Park Dan-ho. He also appeared as Goo Ja-sung in the Korean reimagination of 17 Again called 18 Again. His next webtoon-to-drama adaptation came in 2020 when he starred as Han Seo-jun in True Beauty. His most recent starring role was in 2024’s Family by Choice, an adaptation of the Chinese drama Go Ahead, as Kim San-ha.
Younghoon, one of the members of K-Pop band THE BOYZ, does not have as many acting credits to his name compared to the other two. He made appearances in the 2020 drama Love Revolution and the 2021 drama One the Woman. Younghoon has written for numerous THE BOYZ songs including “Spring Snow” and “Clover.”
Fans can swoon by reading the manhwa on WEBTOON.
