Crunchyroll has big plans for anime adaptations.
At their industry panel at New York Comic Con, Crunchyroll announced that it had partnered with HAYATE and LINE Digital Frontier, a subsidiary of WEBTOON, to co-produce anime adaptations for approximately 15 titles, all of which can be read on LINE Digital Frontier’s app. Three of those 15 titles were already announced: The Boxer, The Remarried Empress, and Teenage Mercenary.
LINE Digital Frontier CEO Shin-bae Kim had previously announced in 2025 that the company would be pursuing more animated adaptations, which included Dark Moon: The Blood Altar and the still-in-limbo Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint. LINE Manga, the Japanese subsidiary of Naver WEBTOON, produced 12 animated adaptations in 2024, a significant increase from two in 2023 and one in 2022.
Crunchyroll recently streamed two seasons of the animated adaptation of Solo Leveling, which was a coproduction between Aniplex, Crunchyroll, D&C Media, Netmarble, and Kakao Piccoma.
Founded in March 2025, HAYATE Inc will focus on planning, developing, and producing anime content for Crunchyroll worldwide. HAYATE’s staff is made up of Aniplex and Crunchyroll employees.
Crunchyroll will exclusively stream these adaptations in select territories when they are made. It is unclear how long this partnership is to last and what formats these adaptations will take.
