The year of webcomics platform shutdowns continues. NTT DOCOMO has announced that MANGA MIRAI, its digital manga distribution platform, will officially shut down on December 15, 2026 at 11:59 PM PST .
Key Dates
- New member registrations, new purchases, and app service: Terminate August 19, 2026 at 7:00 PM PDT (August 20, 2026, 11:00 AM in Japan)
- Service termination: December 15, 2026 at 11:59 PM PST (December 16, 2026, 4:59 PM in Japan)
What Happens to Your Library
Following the closure, users’ purchased works (“library”) will be transferred to MangaPlaza, operated by NTT Solmare Corporation. To access transferred content, users must register an account on MangaPlaza using the same email address used for MANGA MIRAI.
Important Notes
- Some works purchased for free and some paid works may not transfer
- Customers under the age of 18 cannot register for a MangaPlaza account—their purchased works will not be transferred
- The company cited the “current business environment” as the reason for service termination
Launched in March 2025, Manga Mirai offered over 2,400 titles and more than 28,000 volumes of manga in English. After less than two years of operation, the platform is shutting down. Users should ensure their email is registered and check the MangaPlaza site for transfer details. If you have content on Manga Mirai, now is the time to make sure your account is in order before the August 19 purchase cutoff.
