The wait is almost over. Sony Music Vision has announced that Always Lalisa, the feature documentary following global superstar LISA (of iconic K-Pop girl group BLACKPINK), will open in IMAX and cinemas worldwide for a limited engagement beginning October 12, followed by a global streaming release on YouTube Premium later this year. Tickets go on sale September 9 at AlwaysLaLisa.com.
Directed by Sue Kim, the film follows a pivotal year in LISA’s life as, for the first time since childhood, she steps away from BLACKPINK for a year of independence. With the clock ticking before her return to the group, LISA confronts the fear and pressure of launching a solo career, pursuing acting, and building a brand, while yearning to maintain a personal life beyond the spotlight.
The documentary arrives at a moment when LISA’s profile has never been higher:
- Performed at the 2026 FIFA World Cup opening ceremony, becoming the first female K-Pop and Thai artist to do so
- Performed at Coachella 2025 as a solo act
- Covered Vanity Fair’s Summer 2026 issue
- Served on the 2026 Met Gala host committee as the first K-Pop artist in that role
- Made her acting debut in HBO’s The White Lotus
- Announced two Netflix projects—starring in and executive producing action film TYGO and an untitled Notting Hill-inspired romantic comedy
- Announced her upcoming EP PRESS PLAY, out October 23
- Made history as the first K-Pop artist to hold a Las Vegas residency, with her VIVA LA LISA run at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace selling out in under 10 minutes
“LISA’s music resonates with fans across the globe and we hope this film creates that same powerful connection,” said Tom Mackay, President of Sony Music Vision. “Alongside its theatrical release, we’re thrilled to partner with YouTube Premium to bring this intimate look at her incredible journey directly to audiences around the world.”
Lyor Cohen, Global Head of Music at YouTube, added: “There’s no better place to share her story than on YouTube, giving her millions of fans a front-row seat to her evolution as an artist.”
Always Lalisa premiered at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival before its global theatrical rollout. The film is produced by Sony Music Vision, RCA Records, Tremolo Productions, Salt Water Productions, and LLOUD CO. Get your tickets starting September 9—the theatrical run is limited.
