March 26th marks the six-month anniversary of the release of Silent Hill f, the latest addition to the Silent Hill video game universe. In celebration of the occasion, Konami, the entertainment company behind the Silent Hill franchise, announced a manga adaptation of the game, which will feature a new ending penned by the game’s original author, Ryukishi07.

Ryukishi07 is the Final Fantasy-inspired pen name of a Japanese writer who is a leading member of 07th Expansion, a dōjin (loosely translated as “fandom”) specializing in the creation of visual novels. He is best known as the creator of the visual novel series, When They Cry, which includes Higurashi When They Cry, Umineko When They Cry, and Ciconia When They Cry. Outside of his writing credit on Silent Hill f, his other notable work includes the 2011 visual novel Rewrite.

Ryukishi07 is quoted in the Konami press release, saying:
To this day, I remember the feeling of my first encounter with the strangling and oppressive atmosphere of SILENT HILL. It still deeply haunts me, and it still utterly fascinates me. It’s an honor to find myself involved with a series I have so many memories with. I’ve poured all my efforts into this story, so much so that I don’t think I would mind if it was the last thing I ever wrote.
To me, the SILENT HILL series is more than just a collection of stories, it’s a medium; an amazing, phenomenal way of exploring and experiencing a person’s heart and mind. It’s my hope that players out there will come to appreciate it in the same way. To all of our overseas friends, I hope you’ll enjoy a look at what SILENT HILL might be like if set somewhere a little different, like Japan.
The manga will be illustrated by Ame Gōkin and serialized on Kadokawa’s Young Ace UP manga website, which also publishes SK8 the Infinity and The Summer Hikaru Died.
No release date has been set for the first issue.
