Kang Mina Reportedly Joins Byeon Wooseok for Solo Leveling Drama

The cast for the live-action of Solo Leveling is starting to take shape.

According to XSportsNews, Kang Mina has been offered a role in the live-action drama adaptation of Solo Leveling. The role has not been confirmed and her agency responded to the allegations with a “Nothing has been confirmed.” If she does accept the role, it’ll be the third time Kang will work with Byeon Wooseok.

Byeon Wooseok has already been confirmed to star as Sung Jinwoo, the weakest Hunter in the world, for the adaptation. Han Sohee and Kang You-seok were also offered parts in the adaptation with Han in talks for Cha Hae-in and Kang for Yoo Jin-ho. Both have not yet confirmed their appearances.

The drama adaptation was first announced in July 2025 by Netflix with Kakao Entertainment and Sanai Pictures collaborating in the production. A release window has not yet been revealed and Byeon still remains the only confirmed cast member for the series.

Kang debuted as a member of I.O.I but has since been focusing on her acting career. She made her debut in the romcom drama Children of the 20th Century in 2017 and starred in her first lead role in History of Walking Upright. In 2022, she starred as Han Ae-jin in Moonshine where she won “Best New Actress” at the KBS Drama Awards. For her role as Cho Hae-dal in Welcome to Samdal-ri, she won “Best New Actress” at the APAN Star Awards in 2024.

Solo Leveling, the original novel written by Chugong and the webcomic adaptation by DUBU, remains one of the most popular action webcomics. The story follows Sung Jinwoo’s journey of becoming the strongest Hunter in the world after he accepts the System’s offer in becoming a Player following his near-death experience. He soon gets thrown into a war against the Monarchs as the powerful beings seek to wipe out the human race. The novel first debuted on KakaoPage on July 25, 2016 and has since concluded. The webcomic ran from March 2018 to December 2021.

An anime adaptation was announced in 2022. Produced by A-1 Pictures, Shunsuke Nakashige directed the first two seasons of Solo Leveling. Noboru Kimura oversaw the project as the head writer with Tomoko Sudo as the character designer and Hiroyuki Sawano as the composer. Taito Ban voiced Sung Jinwoo (renamed to Shun Mizushino in the anime in Japan), Reina Ueda voiced Cha Hae-In (renamed to Shizuku Kosaka in the anime), Hiroki Touchi voiced Baek Yoonho (renamed to Taiga Shirakawa in the anime), Genta Nakamura voiced Yoo Jinho (renamed to Kenta Morohishi in the anime), Daisuke Hirakawa voiced Choi Jong-In (renamed to Shin Mogami in the anime), Banjou Ginga voiced Go Gunhee (renamed to Kiyoomi Gotō in the anime) and Makoto Furukawa voiced Woo Jinchul (renamed to Akira Inukai in the anime). Season 1 aired from January to March 2024.

A second season titled Solo Leveling: Arise from the Shadows premiered in January 2025 and wrapped up in March. A compilation film, Solo Leveling: ReAwakening, aired in the US and Canada in December 2024. A third season has not yet been confirmed.

Both the novel and webcomic are published in print by Yen Press. The novel can be read digitally on Tapas with the webcomic available on a number of platforms including Tapas and Manta.
