Jujutsu Kaisen Goes On a Three-Week Break

Jujutsu Kaisen will take a break for a few weeks after publishing Chapter 221 and will return on May 14.

The Jujutsu Kaisen manga has announced it will take a hiatus for a few weeks and will return in May.

Shonen Jump News (@/WSJ_manga) revealed the hiatus announcement on Twitter. Jujutsu Kaisen will take a break after releasing Chapter 221 on April 23. Due to Golden Week in Japan, all Weekly Shōnen Jump works will take a week off from April 29 to May 5, 2023 before resuming serialization. Jujutsu Kaisen will take a second week off on May 7 before returning on May 14.

Gege Akutami launched Jujutsu Kaisen in Weekly Shōnen Jump in March 2018 and the series currently has 22 tankōbon volumes as of March 2023. The series follows Yuji Itadori who has a metaphorical ax hanging over his head after he swallows a rotten finger to save his friends. By consuming that finger, Yuji has now thrown himself directly into the world of sorcerers and and curses and must now find and swallow the rest of the fingers from Sukuna, the King of Curses. The manga has over 70 million copies in circulation as of August 2022.

MAPPA produced an anime adaptation of the manga in October 2020 which Sunghoo Park directed the first season of. Season 2, directed by Shōta Goshozono, will release on July 6 for two consecutive cours. Season 2 will adapt the “Kaigyoku/Gyokusetsu” and “Shibuya Incident” arcs.

Chapter 221 of Jujutsu Kaisen releases on April 23 with serialization returning on May 14.
