Another World, the highest-grossing film in Hong Kong’s animated history, will finally make its way to North America.
GKIDS Films announced that the film will make its premiere in North America on June 5. Further details on the tickets and locations have not yet been revealed. As part of its announcement, GKIDS Films revealed a new poster and the official trailer. Another Film will be shown in Cantonese with English subtitles.
Another World is an adaptation of Naka Sijo’s Thousand Year Ghost and is Tommy Ng Kai Chung’s directorial debut. Polly Yeung wrote and produced the film with Gin Kai Chan as the co-producer. Another World was first conceived as a short film which won numerous awards including the Hong Kong ifva Animation Award. The short film was turned into a full-length film after the creative team received a substantial amount of funding from the Film Development Fund’s “Film Production Financing Scheme,” as well as international co-production funding from the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, China, and Japan.
The film finally released on October 29, 2025 in Hong Kong, six years after the short film’s premiere. Another World has grossed $15 million in HKD as of December 2025. Among its many accolades, Another Film won “Best Animated Feature” at the Golden Horse Awards in 2025, “Films of Merit” from the Hong Kong Film Critics Society Award, and received numerous nominations.

Gudo is a Soul Keeper, a spirit who guides human souls into their next life. When he befriends a young girl named Yuri, he discovers that her untimely death has left her cursed with unresolved rage and regret. As Yuri’s soul teeters on the edge of annihilation, Gudo embarks on a dangerous journey to stop her from unleashing horrible destruction on both the human world and the spirit realm.
ANOTHER WORLD is a dark fairytale that explores forgiveness and reconciliation in the face of hatred and despair. The directorial debut from Tommy Ng Kai Chung brings together the finest young talent from Hong Kong to create a poignant fantasy that boasts awe-inspiring action and captivating visuals.
Another World will premiere on June 5.
