The drama adaptation of High School Queen has now offered the lead role to Kim Se-jeong.
According to The Fact, Kim Se-jeong has been casted in the lead role Kim Cheongha and the production is currently in the planning period. Previously, the offer had been extended to Shin Ye Eun but the actor had reportedly turned it down. Kim’s agency, BH Entertainment, stated that High School Queen was one of the offers she was reviewing.
Production company Studio Dragon has plans to develop High School Queen into a long-form drama and said they want to “preserve the webtoon’s signature exhilarating action [and] further expand the romance that moves between the Joseon era and the present day.”
Written by critie with Nehae illustrating the manhwa, High School Queen launched on the English platform on January 1, 2025 and has 69 episodes as of this article’s writing. The series has garnered 6.3 million views.
WEBTOON describes the synopsis as below:
Cheongha Kim, a legendary swordswoman from the Joseon era, awakens centuries later in the body of Dajin Park, a quiet high school student. Armed with deadly combat skills, Cheongha must face school bullies, navigate the chaos of modern-day life, and find her place in a world far different from her own. Kim debuted as a member of I.O.I. after finishing second in the reality show competition Produce 101. After I.O.I. disbanded, she debuted once again in Gugudan in 2018 although the girl group disbanded shortly after in 2020. Kim found more success in her acting ventures when she starred in School 2017 as Ra Eun-ho. Three years later, she once again starred in the drama adaptation of the manhwa Amazing Rumor which was renamed to The Uncanny Counter. She won the “Top Excellence Award, Actress in a Miniseries Romance/Comedy Drama” at the SBS Drama Awards for her portrayal as Shin Ha-ri in A Business Proposal.
