Hanashi Media is stepping into a well-loved genre for the first time.
The independent publisher announced its first BL light novel. The work, titled The Vampire and the Chocolatier: A Genius Alchemist’s Sweet Obsession, will come out in August. The light novel will also include a special bonus short story and an exclusive preview of the upcoming manga adaptation’s opening chapter. The light novel follows the romance between a vampire and a chocolatier who enter a contractual relationship where the eternal existence of a vampire can only be made less torturous by the deliciousness of chocolate.
Hanashi Media primarily focuses on licensing light novels in both English and Spanish. The publisher currently has released 11 light novels, including Another World, The New Gate, The Fruit of Evolution, and Love Under the Blue Moon. Although the publisher lists manga as one of the things they license, they currently do not have any titles announced.
Written by Masanobu Serizawa with illustrations by Kyou Kitazawa, Hanashi Media provided the following for the synopsis:
“Offer the ultimate sweetness—or die.”
In the mysterious city of Luvilia, where supernatural beings gather in the shadows, alchemist Alfred is on the verge of losing everything—his money, his home, even his life—when he is unfortunately saved by the vampire Shin.
The price of that salvation?
A binding contract of servitude.
If Alfred runs, he dies. And the order given to him is absurd: Create chocolate so delicious it could make someone die from pleasure.
