Who’s ready to swoon and fall in love once more?
Disney Publishing announced a line of romantasy webcomics at this year’s D23. Called “Disney Cursed Love,” this initiative will reimagine Disney’s classic love stories into webcomics. First on the docket centers around a tale as old as time with Beauty and the Beast turned into a webcomic called The Curse of a Forsaken Heart. This Disney romantasy line joins a variety of other Disney properties that have been turned into webcomics which includes Star Wars and the Disney villains which will be released sometime in the future.
Emily McIntire will write the story with Samairu providing the illustrations. The Curse of a Forsaken Heart will land on WEBTOON first before being available as a print comic in 2027.
Beauty and the Beast, to McIntire, is a story about change and transformation. “Recognizing that even with your flaws and fears, you’re worthy of love,” she said.
Although fans will be very familiar with Belle and the Beast, McIntire introduced two new characters named Emberlynne and Lucan whose storyline will follow more of a rivals-to-lovers progression.The writer said the new characters are “the last two people who should be falling for each other. She hates him, and he loves to flirt with her in spite of that. Or maybe because of it. […] Their happily ever after is well fought and well earned.”
The synopsis of The Curse of a Forsaken Heart is as follows:
Belle and the Beast (in his human form) get sucked into a magical world through an enchanted stained-glass window. Once trapped, they quickly realize the fate of the realm is tied to the kingdom’s princess, Emberlynne: a woman who didn’t yield to the marriage proposal of an evil sorcerer. As a result of her refusal, the entire kingdom is cursed to live without love and anyone who steps foot inside it is also cursed. Belle and the Beast will have to not only find their way back to their own love, but also help the princess find hers in order to lift the curse from the kingdom and return home.
A release date for The Curse of a Forsaken Heart has not yet been revealed.
