What if your favorite anime character could step out of the screen and into your world—and grow alongside you?
CODE27, the interactive platform that lets creators design and engage with fully autonomous anime-inspired AI characters, is making its Anime Expo debut this July . The company, which raised over $1.9M on Kickstarter and ¥215M on Makuake, is offering fans an exclusive first look at its AI companion hardware before the official launch.
What Is CODE27?
Described as the world’s first customizable 3D AI companion hub, CODE27 brings anime characters to life as interactive desktop companions. Users can customize characters, environments, and expressions, then watch their companion evolve based on choices and storytelling. The platform connects to cloud or local AI models, supports custom 3D assets, and allows behavior programming through “Spellbooks”—giving creators deep control over how their companion looks, thinks, and interacts.
The booth will also showcase CodieHub, an ecosystem for creators to publish and monetize original characters—human-crafted, not AI-generated .
CODE27’s crowdfunding success turned heads. The Kickstarter campaign raised over $1.7M from more than 3,200 backers, far outpacing industry benchmarks where similar projects averaged $300,000–$500,000 . The company also secured funding from reputable investors including Sequoia China and Qiming Venture Partners. The hardware core team brings experience from DJI and EcoFlow, known for developing globally successful consumer electronics.
AI companions are becoming one of the most talked-about intersections of anime fandom and technology. CODE27 is betting that personalized, interactive characters will be the next frontier—and Anime Expo attendees get to see it first.
