September 9 is officially Attack on Titan day.
The manga, written and serialized by Hajime Isayama, first launched on September 9. The number “nine” is also significant due to its connection to the Nine Titans. To celebrate the day, a whopping 99 special events, merch, illustrations, and more have been announced. The first of which is an official commemorative visual for the special day as well as a commemorative logo inspired by the Doomsday Titan.
Isayama also illustrated a special artwork featuring Eren and Levi.
The Attack on Titan 3 game also revealed its opening animation key visual produced by MAPPA. The game drops on December 10.
Some notable announcements are:
- Commemorative Attack on Titan day merch is now available at the Shonen Magazine SHOP! This includes T-shirts, acrylic stands, and more
- 99 chapters of the manga will be free to read for 99 hours on the Weekly Shonen Magazine manga app Magazine Pocket
- Attack on Titan launches its official YouTube channel which includes limited-time anime streams and exclusive special features
- Attack on Titan Part 1 to screen in theaters on October 23 in SCREENX, 4DX, and ULTRA 4DX
- Attack on Titan THE LAST ATTACK to screen in theaters in 2027 in SCREENX, 4DX, and ULTRA 4DX
Attack on Titan was brought to life by two notable animation studios. The first three seasons were helmed by Wit Studio and earned critical acclaim for its smooth action sequences. Production shifted to Studio MAPPA for the fourth and final season where it was split in three parts. The first part aired in December 2020 with the second part airing in January 2022. The third part was split into two specials with the first debuting on March 4 as a one-hour special and the last on November 5.
The story of Attack on Titan follows Eren Yeager who vowed to avenge his mother’s death and free humanity from the Titans, giant man-eating humanoid creatures. As Eren seeks revenge, he discovers more secrets about the Titans and his own family legacy and his priorities shift to finding a way for humankind to experience true freedom.
The manga recorded 140 million copies in circulation in November 2023 and is one of the best-selling manga of all time. Attack on Titan won numerous awards including “Best Manga Series” at the Sugoi Japan Awards, NEO Awards, and Manga Taisho. It was nominated for the Grand Prize at the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2014.
