An actual date was not yet announced but fans now have a month to emotionally prepare themselves to read and reread the novel in a visual format. A cover art was released before but this new cover art has more detail in the background as well as stylized font for the title. The artist has not yet been announced as of this article’s writing.

Yuewen also announced on their X, formerly known as Twitter, account, that Shadow Slave would be enjoying an audiobook adaptation with Garrett Michael Brown narrating. The first volume, “Child of Shadows,” will release on October 6 by Aethon Audio.

Shadow Slave debuted on WEBNOVEL in 2021 and is currently ongoing with 11 volumes and 3,087 chapters. The fantasy/action story has amassed 108.1 million views and counting.

In October 2025, Aethon announced that the webnovel would be released in a hardcover print edition with a scheduled release for October 6, 2026. In its announcement, the publisher also announced that it will be working with Laurel Pursuit (Dungeon Crawler Crawl) on the webcomic adaptation. It is not clear whether the publisher will release the webcomic in print edition as well.

The synopsis from WEBNOVEL is as follows:

Growing up in poverty, Sunny never expected anything good from life. However, even he did not anticipate being chosen by the Nightmare Spell and becoming one of the Awakened – an elite group of people gifted with supernatural powers. Transported into a ruined magical world, he found himself facing against terrible monsters – and other Awakened – in a deadly battle of survival.
What’s worse, the divine power he received happened to possess a small, but potentially fatal side effect…

The story can be read on WEBNOVEL.
