The story about the mediocre turned legendary blacksmith is headed for an anime adaptation this fall.
Overgeared has inspired an anime adaptation, releasing a key visual and a teaser trailer to accompany the announcement. The adaptation will be animated by J.C.Staff and produced by EGG FIRM with Ayako Kono (Sword Art Online The Movie – Progressive) helming as the director. Ryosuke Tanigawa will be in charge of the character designs and Yoshikazu Iwanami will sign on as the sound director. Yoshiaki Fujisawa will compose the music.

Only two voice actors were announced for the role and have voiced god-level characters before. Tatsumaru Tachibana, who previously portrayed Jin Mori in The God of High School, will portray Grid and Asami Seto, who voiced Jujutsu Kaisen‘s Nobara Kugisaki, will take on the role of Yura.
A webnovel written by Saenal, Overgeared launched on KakaoPage in November 2014 and ran until April 2024. The story has been collected into 57 print volumes by Maru Publishing. Wuxiaworld translated the series in English and the story can be read digitally on their platform. The novel has inspired a manhwa adaptation which debuted on April 1, 2020 with Monohumbug writing the adaptation and Team Argo illustrating.
Ize Press describes the story:
Youngwoo Shin is a deadbeat in real life, working odd jobs to barely pay off his loans. Even his family has written him off as a hopeless video game addict. But when he logs in to the massively popular VR game Satisfy, Youngwoo becomes Grid the Warrior…who is also painfully mediocre. Everything changes when he stumbles across a tome containing the lost knowledge of a legendary blacksmith. The catch is, using it resets all his levels! In order to survive after being forced back to square one, Grid will need to hone his skills and gather reliable allies…or not! Who needs all that when you’re decked out in god-tier items?!
Overgeared has enjoyed six million views on Tapas and is currently up to Episode 290 on the platform. Ize Press holds the English print license for the manhwa with Volume 11 set to come out on August 18.
The anime comes out in October. A streaming platform has not yet been announced.
