Mignon and Youngwon will return in a manhwa!

Announced by ABJ Company, RIDI will release a manhwa adapation of Mignon, the popular BL animation. The manhwa will release on January 31 in Korea. It is unclear how many chapters it will contain. There’s also no announcement of an international release yet.

Debuting on Aug. 11, 2023, Mignon garnered praise for storytelling and animation quality. In only 12 short five to ten minute episodes, the fantasy animation follows a young rising boxer named Mignon who participates in illegal fights. Injuries are a given, thanks to his occupation, but he doesn’t have much to fear when he has Oh Youngwon, the mysterious and handsome doctor, caring for him. Mignon inadvertently discovers Youngwon’s secret and his world turns upside down. Oh Minhyeok voices Mignon while Kim Minju voices Oh Youngwon.

Initially, the series was released on Vimeo but it was taken down shortly after on Aug. 23. There wasn’t much explanation except ABJ Company stating it was “due to issues with the creator’s former agency.”

The creator teased a possible side story back in March 2024 but an animated short has not been released.

Bboong Bbang Kkyu’s first BL series, Hyperventilation, did something similar. First released as a short six-episode animation, the series which told the tale about high school classmates who reunite almost ten years later, Hyperventilation was adapted into a manhwa. The manhwa adapted the animation with some new content. It is unclear, however, whether Mignon will go down the same path.

Mignon is available to watch on LAFTEL.
